The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
